Janss House

The historic Janss House, located at 482 Greenmeadow Drive in Thousand Oaks, California, was built in 1931 by prominent developer Dr. Edwin Janss Sr. as a weekend retreat for his family. Designed in part by his wife, Florence Janss, the residence later became the central home of the Janss family ranch, which played a significant role in the early development of the Conejo Valley. In 1943, the house became the primary residence of Edwin Janss Jr., continuing its association with one of the region’s most influential development families.

The Janss House is recognized for its historical importance and association with the growth of Thousand Oaks. It was designated Ventura County Landmark No. 112 in 1987 and later named City of Thousand Oaks Landmark No. 8 in 1997. These designations reflect both its architectural character and its connection to the Janss family, whose development efforts helped shape much of the Conejo Valley in the 20th century.
