The historic Sycamore Tree is located on the grounds of the Stagecoach Inn Museum at 51 S. Ventu Park Rd. in Newbury Park California and is estimated to be more than 250 years old. It is part of the Chumash exhibit. Historically, the tree is believed to have been used by the Chumash people, who bent its lower branches to mark the presence of underground water.
The tree holds multiple historic designations. It is designated Ventura County Landmark No. 44 (1978) and City of Thousand Oaks Historical Landmark No. 2. In addition, it is part of the broader Stagecoach Inn Museum site, which itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a California Historical Landmark.
